Some thoughts as I return from basketblog exile.
The weather is warming, but there's still a cold chill in the air. Have you seen the Vol offense in spring practice? Ice Cold, baby.
And now one of their top receivers may be hurt.
Covering the NCAA tournament is like driving a car 900 miles an hour, and then slamming on the brakes. For three weeks, the players, fans, and media scramble at a mad pace. Then, it's over.
My January-March travel routine: Indianapolis (Colts), Daytona, Little Rock, Nashville, Greensboro, Cleveland, Ohio. My suitcase is tattered, my cats don't recognize me, and my wife-- hey, where's my wife? (Just kidding).
Let me get this straight, the most positive thing to come out of Vol spring practice is news that a (very popular) former basketball player is trying-out for the football team-- and the head coach won't let him talk to the media?
Two days later, Stanley Asumnu makes a 50-yard catch during a srimmage. Ok, NOW he can talk.
Shouldn't NASCAR shorten the season-- to say, 25 races?
I miss drivers like Cale Yarborough and David Pearson.
Matt Kenseth should have smacked Jeff Gordon. Opps, Gordon was still wearing his helmet. Smart guy, that Kenseth!
Baseball from mid-April to mid-September wouldn't be so bad either. I love baseball's lengthy grind, but starting the World Series in early October makes more sense than ending it in early November.
I miss ballplayers like Bob Gibson and Roberto Clemente.
Shorten the distance to first base to 87 1/2 feet. It's a joke! Just making sure you're still paying attention.
Has anyone seen the NHL?
This will make no sense to anyone who didn't live in upstate New York in the 1970s-- but I'll take a (slap) shot. Please, Buffalo, bring back the Sabres blue and gold! I long for the days of the French Connection line: Perreault, Martin, Robert. (pronounced: Pair-oh, Martin, Row-bear). For gosh sakes, you've got a angry dairy cow on your uniforms now. Ugh!
