A Spring Fling!

It was a comforting way to end spring practice.

The Vol football team put on an encouraging show at the Orange and White game. Most impressive was Erik Ainge.Erik Ainge
Ok, I know. If you're not a Vol football fan, your first response is to bash me for making too much of an exhibition game played in front of 15,000 fans. But coming on the heels of last year's 6-loss, offensively disorganized season, this--- is significant.

Forget Ainge's 14 completions for 210 yards. Most memorable for me, was the junior (to be) quarterback's state of mind after the game. He sounded confident. He sounded much better than the dazed sophomore who lost his starting job after a dismal game against LSU last season.

The Vols also made some big offensive plays. Robert Meacham scored two touchdowns. He turned a short pass into a 70-yard sprint for the endzone. A big play! I almost forgot what those were.
It wasn't Florida. Or Bama. Or even Vandy! But the Vols sounded a little bit like winners on Saturday. Now their challenge-- turn that regained confidence into positive results come September 2nd against Cal.
