Super Thoughts

I had my ticket punched to Super Bowl XL. But the Colts lost, and with that, my credential evaporated. Although, I didn't cherish the thought of spending a week in Michigan-- in February. Next year's game is in Miami. So, Go Colts!, or Titans! My bags are packed.

A few thoughts:

In a game that commands star power-- it was two mostly unknown players that won the title for the Steelers. Willie Parker's been solid all season, and Hines Ward is known to fans of SEC football, but when Parker busted his TD run, and Ward caught his TD pass, many non-fans watching the game (most of the expected 90 million viewers) were wondering who those guys were.

In the tradition of Larry Brown ('96 XXX), and Desmond Howard ('97 XXXI), Ward comes up with a big play (or two) in THE big game. I know, it wasn't Aikman-esque, but it was a solid MVP performance. And unlike Montana, I'm sure Ward will show up for future MVP events at the going-rate.

I'm tired of the whining over the officials. I thought the early interference call against Seattle was ticky-tacky. But it happened in the endzone. In front of an official. In front of a camera. In the biggest game of the year. No-brainer. The call had to be made.

And, for what it's worth, I think Ben was in the endzone. Even if he didn't.

Now for the entertainment portion of our show, folks!

The Rolling Stones are just.. bad! They've become cartoon characters. They're old, worn out, and a typical big-name, but can't deliver act. I saw them live in '81. They were worn out then. The NFL blew it.

Stevie Wonder could have carried the half-time show himself. For many reasons, it was a missed opportunity-- and would have been a better show.
