Bowl Repeat Not Good For Vols

The Vols are glad to be going to the Outback Bowl in Tampa again, but recent history shows this may not be good.   The Vols have gone back-to-back in bowl games three times since 1999.    Their repeat trips have been dismal.

1998:  Fiesta Bowl  (Win)
1999:  Fiesta Bowl (Loss)

2002:  Peach Bowl (Loss)
2003:  Peach Bowl (Loss)

2007:  Outback Bowl (Loss)
2008:  Outback Bowl (TBD)

The Vols did have success in 1996 and 1997, with repeat trips to the Citrus Bowl-- they beat Ohio State and Northwestern.

This bowl may not be as nice as a Back To The Future movie. Wisconsin is not a team to take light hearted. Tennessee has trouble with red and white teams in post season -- 97 and 99. Tennessee has had trouble in bowls period the last 15 years losing 8 out 15 too. This cant be sitting well with the fan base. Inconsistency is the rule of thumb in Knoxville. If they lose on TV again -- recruiting will be a big problem once again - like in 2005. It is a sad state of affairs for one of football's all time great programs to be in a rut this big and this deep and this long.
