Biggest Local Sports Stories

In the words of Jimmy Buffett, "I've got too much to see waiting in front of me".  I really try to abide by that.  So with that in mind, I'll only offer a brief look back at the local sports landscape in 2007.   Here are what I consider the 10 biggest sports stories of the past year:

I won't rank them.  I will leave that for you.   Which story was the biggest?

Peyton Manning Wins Super Bowl
UT Men's Basketball Makes NCAA Sweet 16, Before Losing to Ohio State
Lady Vols Win 7th National Title
Smokies Become Chicago Cubs Affiliate
Rod Delmonico Fired as UT Baseball Coach
Vols Basketball Legend Ray Mears Dead at 80
Monica Abbott Leads Lady Vols To NCAA World Series, Sets NCAA Pitching Records
UT Football Flounders, Recovers, Makes SEC Game, Saves Fulmer's Job
Todd Helton Plays In World Series
David Cutcliffe Leaves Vols, Becomes Duke Head Football Coach

You forgot one really B-I-G

You forgot one really B-I-G one, Jim!!! What about our girls from Morristown who went to Oregon and came back with a world series????? I know they are just 11 and 12 years old, but it was a very BIG deal to Morristown and to them!!!! Shame on you!! There are more to sports than just college and pro. Our local young athletes deserve a nod too. While I am mentioning that, what about the High School Football teams who won state championships? That was a big deal too. Just go to Maryville and ask around if you don't believe me!!!

We covered both stories on

We covered both stories on the air. Oak Ridge also won state cross-country titles. No, we I didn't include everything. As I said, rank them (or add them) if you choose.

Sorry if I came on too

Sorry if I came on too harsh!! It was not my intent. The reason I clicked on the blog is because it said local sports stories, but nearly everything mentioned had something to do with UT. I am a big UT fan, but there are more local stories than UT. This area of East Tennessee is blessed with wonderful athletes from kids all the way to professional, and I would like to have seen ALL of that included. Also, I would like to think if we lived in an outlying county that is served by your station, we would also be considered "local" .
