Los Angeles Arrival!
Submitted by Jim Wogan on August 29, 2008 - 1:57am.
I made my first trip to Los Angeles in 1976. I was 18 years old. I stayed for nearly a year, and I never get tired of coming back. If you've never been, it's everything everyone says it is. LA is a crazy, mixed-up, maddening maze of freeways and free spirts. Its diversity is all-encompassing and always enriching. Its topography is ever-changing (along with its air quality). It is far from perfect, but the sun really does shine a lot, and despite what people say and think, it really is a good sports town.
More on that later.
Our Vol football coverage team arrived in LA on Thursday night. Five freeways and two traffic jams later, cheif photographer Jason Byers, producer Russ Hollingsworth and I checked into our hotel-- located about 10 miles down the 210 Freeway from the Rose Bowl (which translates to just across the street, in LA).
It's our home for the next four days. The out-of- focus photo was taken during our drive from the airport to Pasadena. You don't stop to focus in LA. You point, shoot, and pray. I will continue to add updates and better photos from the trip. By Tuesday, I will be ready for East Tennessee. But for the next four days, I really do love LA.
