Fisher Not Backing Down

Submitted by Jim Wogan on October 21, 2009 - 4:13pm

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher shows up at a benefit function wearing a Peyton Manning jersey.  Big deal, right?

Wrong.

Fisher's team is 0-6. His job security has been called into question. And now he's joking about it. Apparently some misguided fans are offended.

Tough nuts, says the head coach. Well, Fisher didn't say it exactly like that, but that's what he implied.

There's no doubt Fisher's heart is in the right place. He was attending a benefit event in Nashville and was introducing former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy. He's the guy who used to coach Manning, remember?

Fisher thought it would be a nice touch to add some humor to the festivities. He took off his jacket and shirt to reveal the Manning jersey.  Fisher said he "wanted to feel like a winner."

While most people laughed, apparently Fisher felt pressured to offer an apology/explanation during his coaches show on Tuesday night.

Apologize for what? In a way, he was poking fun at himself.

Titans fans have a right to be upset at the way Fisher's coaching his team. What the coach did Tuesday has no bearing on that, or his seriousness about winning games.

Titans Coach Fisher

Leave Coach Fisher alone. The TItans and Coach Fisher are struggling enough. It was a fundraiser and he did it with good taste. We all need a laugh now and then, even us poor Titans fans. We're behind you Coach Fisher and we hope you turn this losing streak around.
