Song and Dance
Consider this one of my last frivolous acts of summer. My wife and attended a James McMurtry concert in Maryville last weekend.
McMurtry is one of the most profound songwriters I have heard. A recent review on something called blogcritic.com summed him up this way:
McMurtry still writes plainly-recounted character sketches of ordinary people clinging to hope by a hair, and of imperfect relationships. Nowadays, it's increasingly supplemented with frustration over the general direction of the country and mid-life crisis themes.
Anyway, I like him. I snapped off a few photos on my phone while I was there. His music is much better than my picture taking.
McMurtry is from Texas, where football is big, so I guess I've fulfilled my obligation to make this about sports too.
On Wednesday, I head to Birmingham for the SEC Football Media Days. It will be three days of chatter to get all of us ready for the season.
Too keep it all in balance, I'll have McMurtry on the iPod during down time.
