Staying Young with Jody Wright

Submitted by Jim Wogan on February 9, 2011 - 12:09pm

One of the great pleasures of covering sports is hitting the local scene, especially high school athletes. Over the years I have been able to develop great relationships with area players and coaches-- among them is Fulton High School's Jody Wright.

Wright was honored this week for his 26 years in coaching-- it includes 528 wins and two state titles. On Tuesday, the Fulton High gymnasium was dedicated, and re-named the Jody Wright Arena. I managed to take this photo of the event.

Not only is Wright a winner, but he somehow has managed to age gracefully in a sport that carries its share of stress. As a female colleague of mine said Tuesday night, "Oh, he's that coach that never seems to get old."

Jody might disagree, but it's true-- and whether it's mind, body or spirit, let's hope we all stay young.
