Summitt Stunt
Submitted by Jim Wogan on March 1, 2007 - 3:56am.Honestly, I wondered whether Pat Summitt was making the right decision. She is, after all, the winngest coach in college basketball. I feared a stately image, earned after decades of hard work, would be tarnished.
But after watching her take the court during the UT-Florida game, Summitt proved once again she knows exactly what she is doing.
Daytona 500
Submitted by Jim Wogan on February 19, 2007 - 6:50am.I love NASCAR. But I've got a problem with it. If the Daytona 500 is really the Super Bowl of stock car racing, how come anyone can win? I'm not saying it's wrong, and I'm not saying I don't like it. It just seems, well, contrived.
NASCAR and (wink) Cheating
Submitted by Jim Wogan on February 15, 2007 - 7:38am.I admit it. To a healthy degree, I am a cynic. That's why I am laughing at NASCAR's effort to crack down on cheating. Laughing because--- NASCAR is loving this! While most professional sports shy away from controversy, NASCAR has created some during the biggest week of the season. Their PR brilliance is unmatched. They look like saints, and they're getting gobs of attention for it.
Super Bowl III... A Personal Story
Submitted by Jim Wogan on February 4, 2007 - 6:22am.On the eve of Super Bowl XLI, the NFL Network gave me a trip back to the first Super Bowl I remember as a kid. Super Bowl III. In reality, the original Super Bowl. The first two were called the AFL-NFL Championship. Former Commissioner Pete Rozell was a smart guy with that Roman numeral thing, because AFL-NFL sounds like a union organization (which, in a way, it has become).
