Imus, Again?

The Imus stuff has generated some good responses. I'd like to walk away from the topic-- but I can't, yet.

I'd be shocked if he's not fired. I know, free speech and all, but it's not about that. We're constitutionally protected to voice our opinions. But be ready to face others who don't share them. This ain't a government crackdown. It's capitalism at it's best-- or worst.

If Imus is fired, it won't be because his network bosses suddenly found him offensive. If that were the case, Imus would have been bounced last week, immedidately after he made the comments. Nope. He'll be fired because network sponsors forced the issue.

But don't think Imus is over.

Satellite radio is waiting. The future of XM and Surius may be pinned to their planned merger, but both have been around long enough, and I believe they will survive.

For the most part, XM and Surius survive without sponsors. They're subscription-based. Someday, I suspect, you can add Imus to the list of celebrities already doing their shows exclusively on satellite radio.

Happy Jackie Robinson Day,

Happy Jackie Robinson Day, y'all! 42 is the ultimate answer to the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything according to H2G2 ya know;)

Ut-oh! Let's see if I can git this comment scrubbed:

Somebody made a comment worse than I-mess's crack about the Rutgers basketball team a couple of months ago IMHO. SpongeBill NoPants said the MO kidnap victim, Shawn Hornbeck, enjoyed his four years of captivity. Except for a few blogs and Keith Olbermann* (Praise be the Saviour of Democracy and Peace be Unto the Name of the Classiest Guy in the World!) nary a word about it was said, especially the yelling heads who are yammering about "hip-hop-ocrisy" on FAUX Noise Channel. Here's a kicker. The Daytime Queen of Nice, Oprah, had SpongeBill NoPants on her program about sexual predators a couple of weeks after SpongeBill's dipstick comments and Miz O said bupkis about 'em. Yet, a few weeks earlier Miz O shamelessly exploited Hornbeck and his family. A few months earlier the Queen of Nice dragged James Frey thru the knothole backwards because of that stupid book. Peers to this humble observer that Miz O is as much as a thug as SpongeBill NoPants and I-mess. She'll excoriate some punk con man, but a big shot, right wing cable news guy gets a free pass. And let's also not forget Loofahgate as well. Once again about the voice raised about Loofahgate was Keith Olbermann*. Hey while I'm dumping on the Queen of Nice, let me make it a triple. Before Howard Stern jetted off to that Eye in the Sky, he did a bit about "tossed salad." It's a homework assignment for you if you don't know what it is. Of course, the company Howard Stern worked for got a nice big whopping fine from the FCC. A few days later Miz O did a program regarding the same subject. Did she get a fine? But, noooo. After Miz O's show, Stern wanted to just read Oprah's transcript over the air. His management nixed the idea. As I said, I'm glad I-mess is gone and hope he's never heard from again. I think SpongeBill NoPants should be given the heave-ho as well. At least, the Rutgers basketball team are adults.

Jake, I'll get back to you on the lyrics thing later this week. I'm kinda of tippy-tappied out right now. Oh yeah, Revs. Al and JJ and Rosie are kinda like an old calendar. They're right about once every 11 years:)

Alert! Alert! Warning! Warning! Danger! Danger! Someone just typed Keith Olbermann!Inform SpongeBill NoPants to sic FAUX Noise Channel Security on him! Yikes! He did it again:)

Well dr.filbert we agree on

Well dr.filbert we agree on the "revs"! Each one has his own scam going for him!
The words don't bring up country music links on Goggle and being a listener to country music, I can't recall any of those words in the music I listen to!
Reckon they would consider Imus's spot for Alex Jone's Info Wars?

OOPS! Forgot. Have you heard

OOPS! Forgot. Have you heard Keith Olbermann's* (the saviour of democracy and the classiest guy in the world) comments about I-mess on ESPN radio? They certainly give you yet another reason why I-mess had to be given the heave-ho.

*Alert! Alert! Warning! Warning! Danger! Danger! Someone just typed Keith Olberman! Quick inform SpongeBill NoPants to sic FAUX Noise Channel Security on him.

Jake, as far as the Revs. Al

Jake, as far as the Revs. Al and JJ are concerned, they're no better than telescammers like St. Patty Robertson or Phat Jerry Falwell IMHO. Matter of fact Revs. Al and JJ are a lot less successful than Robertson or Falwell because Revs. Al and JJ don't have nice big churches, "age defying" protein shakes or phoney baloney diploma mills, er " law schools" whose graduates can fire more educated and experienced Federal prosecutors. Regarding links, I'm not going to do your homework for you nor am I much of a country musick fan. There's something called the Google. Look 'em up yourself.

I'm glad MSGOP dumped Imus. I hope they replace him with a Today show with a "newsier" edge. I'm not so sanguine about the radio end of the deal because as bad as I-mess was, his replacement on the stations that carried him will probably be yet another right wing, AM radio, angry, white, pudgy, balding, mouth breathing, male gasbag, right in keeping with the rest of the AM radio gasbags on those stations.

Jim, I kinda doubt I-mess will end up on satellite radio in the near future. First, because he's radioactive right now, pun intended. XM and Sirius want to merge and the FCC may put the kabosh on the deal if XM hired him. Second, Howard Stern hates I-mess. As matter of fact, Howard Stern told Mel the K when CBS bought FAN that I-mess wasn't worth the money or trouble. So, Sirius ain't gonna piss off Stern. Third, while satellite radio may be freer than terrestial radio, satellite radio ain't shortwave radio on which any racist or kooky scum can broadcast. I-mess's radio future is on the wild, wacky world of the Innernets. After all if Rev. Al can have an Innernets radio program, then so will I-mess.

Finally! Someone has hit

Finally! Someone has hit on a key issue in this whole argument about music. Dr. Filbert is right. Look, I listen to bluegrass-- but have you heard the lyrics to Knoxville Girl? Not exactly feel good.

Imus = this week's Anna

Imus = this week's Anna Nicole Smith.

Here's a couple of points I noticed that wasn't addressed by all the right wingers in their defense of Imus and yammering about rap lyrics, Al Sharpton and the Rev. JJ:

#1. Who buys most of the rap as well as pop, country, and rock music sold? Hint: It ain't the disaffected, African American, urban youth. Don't be confused. The question isn't about most African Americans listening to and buying rap music. Once again who's responsible for most rap music sales and why do the parents of the young, white, middle class, suburban males allow them to buy rap? OOPS! I gave away the answer.

#2. In all the bloviations about rap music, nobody hasn't mentioned the violence, substance abuse, and misogyny in country musick lyrics. Oh, that's right! Gittin' all lickered up, pickin' up the local bar hawg, wreckin' the pick 'em up truck, going home and beating the wife and chil'un and kickin' the dawg is just good ol' boy, Red State, terbacker chawin', Christian, family values. And there as much nekkidness and booty shakin' on CMT as there is on BET, but y'all don't hear the right wingnuts gittin' all het up over CMT.

I agree that Imus's comments

I agree that Imus's comments were offensive and he should have appologized then moved on, thats it, no firing an appology was enough.

I do feel that in all this controversy that The Lady Vols have received virtualy no reconition for their win and national title. Im not a big sports fan but do think we should shine the spotlight on The Lady Vols; lets give them some applause and congrats!

Thank You.

dr.filbert There's nothing

dr.filbert
There's nothing reverent about jj...and at least post the links to the "country musick" lyrics that you refered to. I'd enjoy reading them.
Jim I've never heard "Knoxville Girl" but did look up the lyrics. Are you trying to say that's country music? I've got a real country mp3 I'm playing now; "Ant going down on Brokeback Mountain"!

I think what Imus said was

I think what Imus said was not very nice. These girls are trying to get their education and make something out of their lives. But they should not let one persons words stop them , they have to be strong and keep the faith. Imus should not have been fired , he appologized that should be it. Music and t.v. it is all getting out of hand.
