All my bags are packed, and I'm ready to go-- John Denver (1967)
No, wait! I'm not even close to having my bags packed! I'm having serious personal time-management issues. The Vols depart for Berkeley, California on Thursday. I leave tomorrow (Tuesday) with an ambitious coverage schedule stuffed somewhere in the bottom of my briefcase. After seven-straight days of work, and three-weeks of preparation-- I have been left with a mere 24 hours to attend to my own issues. Now, where is that razor?
Heading out to San Francisco, for the Labor Day weekend show-- Jimmy Buffett (1974)
After 25 years of marriage, my wife is still amazed that, for a guy who loves Buffett's music, I can be wound so tight. At this point of the preseason, adrenaline has taken over. Part of this off-day will be used to speak to a local Rotary Club about football season. After that, I'll pack, and it's wheels up at 10am on Tuesday-- San Francisco via Chicago. We touchdown at SFO sometime around 4pm Pacific Time.
All those who come to San Francisco, be sure to wear flowers in your hair-- Scott McKenzie (1967)
Nope. Won't be doing that. No time. Here's a sample of our schedule when we arrive: Tuesday evening we shoot a segment with former WATE anchor/reporter Heather Donald, who now works at KRON-TV. She's a Bay Area native and knows the turf. On Wednesday, we will shoot a story with Former Vol-- and current Colorado Rockie 1st Baseman Todd Helton. As luck would have it, the Rockies play the Giants on Wednesday-- PERFECT opportunity for a story. We are airing 2 1/2 hours of specials, our regular nightly sportscast coverage at 5, 6, 11. And oh, yeah, the game is on Saturday.
San Francisco really is one of most beautiful cities on the planet. I'm looking forward to the trip, and watching the Vols play for the first time this year. Preseason is over. Now, where is that toothpaste?
