The Vols Can't Change Now

I realize I'm late getting this posted. It's taken me two days to find the imposter who commandeered my blog and said the Vols were likely to beat Florida. Let's just say, we won't hear from that person again.
Saturday was brutal.

Selfishly, the only good thing I can say about the Vols 39-point loss is that I wasn't there. I've been in Gainesivlle for a few miserable games, and, in fairness to UT's coaching staff, I've been there for a few thrilling wins (December 1, 2001 was one of the most memorable).

Clearly, the Vols have played two very good football teams. Florida is ranked 3rd nationally, and Cal is now ranked 6th. Equally as clear-- is this. The Vols need to rethink the way they approach the game. And that won't be easy.

Florida isn't going away. They've taken the speed-game to a whole new level. All SEC teams will have to adapt. Tennessee among them.

What's scary is this-- the Vols face more teams that have shown a knack for scoring a lot of points. Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia. Oh yeah, and then there's Spurrier.

Bottom line, Tennessee's defense is not good. They're not deep. They're not fast. And they're outmanned. Their special teams play is atrocious. Their offense shows no signs of a serious running game.

Fulmer says it's time to stay the course. He's right. At this point, it might be too late for anything else.

IF YOU READ THE FOLLOWING

IF YOU READ THE FOLLOWING AND STILL DON'T THINK WE NEED TO CHANGE COURSE...WOW!

The SEC is changing...we too as well. Here's my solution...

Chris Petersen (Boise State head coach)

In the history of college football, only one coach since 1900 has won 13 games in his first season at the helm of a Division I football team. That coach is Chris Petersen.

Petersen, moving into his second season at the helm of the Bronco program, led Boise State to an undefeated 13-0 season, including a 43-42 overtime win over Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl last season.

Petersen also became the first Boise State coach to earn national coach of the year honors winning the 2006 Paul "Bear"

I totaly agree with the

I totaly agree with the comments above. I am a gator fan but the Vols are my #2. I know weird huh? but living in both states that's what happens. The vols need a complete overhaul. The days of the ground and pound are pretty much over. It's all about spreading it out and getting your runners to the corners. Just think, during UF national championship run last year their wideouts had more rushing yards than the actual backs. Fulmer has to catch up with the times or he'll be getting his walking papers really soon. There's only so many times a coach can say "wait till next year"

I disagree, a lot of these

I disagree, a lot of these players are young. They want to make the big play and become the hero. They need to buckle down and play some mind set football. Football is about power and speed, and Tennessee has both, but what they are lackin is disipline and we know that is what coach Fulmer is all about. This is a young team and watch it, these boys will be playing for national chapionship in a couple of years.

I agree, I have watched

I agree, I have watched Fulmer SHOW NO EMOTION...UT will throw an INT and he just claps!! UT will FUMBLE and he just claps!! HE has NO EMOTION, UT needs a coach that has fire!!

Florida played 27 Freshmen

Florida played 27 Freshmen in the game. Other coaches across the country are playing numerous freshmen, and they are having an impact on their respective teams. Tennessee needs a coach who is willing to embrace the fact that freshmen can contribute. They also need to abandon the whole idea of no-huddle. Instead of focusing on their routes, the receivers are having to read the play and focus on receiving the right signals. The no-huddle is a disaster.

I agree with the comments

I agree with the comments Jim has made. We do need to improve at everything. Fulmer has been here so long that his style has gotten stale. Most teams need speed, speed, speed, not a power run game. Thats what we were told we had goind for us and it has taken us to this point. I think it is time for Tennessee it cut ties with Fulmer and his entire staff and find some young blood to coach the Vols. Look at the example of the Forida coach. He took a Utah team ( a UTAH TEAM to a BCS bowl) and was given the Florida job as a result. We need a guy like him. Sorry Fulmer, I like you, but you need to go. That is the ONLY way to fix the big orange. And to those who I know will respond to this, what have we won in the past few years? NOTHING.
