Football, Finally!

It's gameday! Finally!

This may be the most compelling season-opener I've covered at Tennessee. There have been many.

Playing at UCLA in 1994 was memorable for a number of reasons. The heart breaking injury to Jerry Colquitt in the Vols first offensive series at the Rose Bowl. Manning's debut. Helton's effort to pull-off a come from behind win. 1994 was hard to beat.

I wasn't at Syracuse in 1998. I was on the anchor desk that day. But my colleague at the time, Scott Finley, witnessed a wild-one against the Orange. The Vols won on a Jeff Hall field goal. It set the stage for UT's national title run.

I'm hoping 2006 will also be a classic. Two good teams. Both with plenty to prove in front of 107,000 fans and a national television audience.

I really doesn't get much better.
