NIT Basketball.. and Football Nit-Picking
Submitted by Jim Wogan on November 15, 2006 - 1:35am.
I've been lost in cyberspace for a few days, but finally found my way back, and have landed courtside at the Gaylord Center in Nashville. The Vol basketball team disposed of Fordham in a rather unartistic display of tournament basketball last night. Fifty-five turnovers in a game that Bruce Pearl said set basketball back 50-years.
The Vols will have a challenge tonight against UNC-Wilmington. The Seahawks have size and evenly distribute the ball for scoring. But Pearl's young team can counter that with their pressure defense and uptempo style.
Win or lose tonight, these NIT Tip-Off games have an NCAA Tournament feel, and will serve this team well in the future.
A quick thought on last week's football loss at Arkansas: The Razorbacks are good, but the Vols looked dazed and confused on defense-- McFadden isn't exactly a secret. I thought they'd do better. Quote of the week from Phillip Fulmer: When asked about his running back rotation against Arkansas, Fulmer's response was.. what difference would that have made? I've paraphrased from a source, but it's close-- and in a way, the coach was right.

Dear Jim, I am sure you
Dear Jim,
I am sure you do not remember me, but back when I attended UT from 1990-95, I wrote you a letter about how I compared peoples love of NASCAR in the south to peoples love of the NHL in the north. I also remember how pleasantly surprised I was when I received a personal response from you. Well, times sure have changed with both NASCAR and the NHL now nationwide sports.
I have been back home in my native NJ for some time now and practicing law. But, I am still a big fan of my NJ Devils, and I am impressed by the great start your Sabres are having up in Buffalo.
I am basically just writing to say it is nice to see you are still at WATE. Every so often I check out your stories on line and am sure to catch you on the 11 PM news whenever I am in town (which unfortunately is not too often any more). I am actually going to watch the Vols play in the NIT tomrrow and Friday since I only live 35 miles from Manhattan and it is rare when they come up to my "neck of the woods" to play.
If you have a moment, please write back.
Sincerely,
Robert Rosen (UTK 1994 and 1995)
