Playoff Push
Submitted by Jim Wogan on January 9, 2007 - 3:40pm.
The final college football polls of the season have reinforced the call, and in many cases the outcry, for a true playoff system.
After their stunning win over Ohio State last night, Florida finished #1 in both the AP and the USA/Coaches Poll. But undefeated Boise State was 5th in the AP and 6th in USA.
I was shocked by a couple of things. First, Ohio State only fell to #2. Granted, they've got just one loss. But it was stunning. Because of their abysmal performance last night, I really thought the Buckeyes would slide, and LSU would finish #2.
Second, Boise State's win over Oklahoma did absolutely nothing for them. Nice work Broncos, take your #5 ranking and go home.
Boise State may, or may not, be worthy of a title shot. But there's only one-way to find out.
For the record, the Vols finished the season 25th in the AP (whew, that was close), and 23rd in the USA poll. More on that later

Jim, I agree 100%.
Jim,
I agree 100%. I haven't been pro or anti playoff system but after Boise State's great showing, I think it needs to happen. So much is put on the teams weighted schedule. In fairness I agree. A teams shchedule should comeinto play. However, if the team beats an opponent of the class of Oklahoma, how weighted can the schedule argument be? After all, does that not call into question the vailidity and power of the teams Oklahoma played? Boise deserved a shot. They earned it. They played hard and well and were the epitomy of College Football and gave us all what we expect from a great college bowl game. Great job guys.
Thanks for listening Jim!
I think that it is so not
I think that it is so not fair for only to team to get to play for the covent Bcs Bowl champion. Look at all the time that a team in the nfl grabs the wildcard and comes back and does a pretty good job at takin care of the business at hand.
